Crafting Inclusion: The Artistic Journey of Biserna hiša

During our exploration of inspiring practices in the professional art world of individuals with intellectual disabilities, we had the pleasure of visiting Biserna hiša in Radovljica. This charming workshop and gallery, nestled in the town’s historic center, is part of the Center for Training, Work, and Care (CUDV) Matevža Langusa Radovljica.

At Biserna hiša, artists craft unique ceramic pieces that have found their way into local restaurants and homes, showcasing the seamless blend of creativity and functionality. Their collaboration with renowned chef Uroš Štefelin highlights the integration of their art into the culinary scene, where their handcrafted ceramics enhance the dining experience.

Beyond ceramics, the gallery also features inspiring paintings and graphics created by talented individuals, reflecting their diverse artistic expressions. The supportive environment, guided by mentors like academic painter Matjaž Arnol, fosters personal growth and community engagement.

Biserna hiša exemplifies how art can serve as a powerful medium for inclusion, empowerment, and professional development for people with intellectual disabilities. Their work not only enriches the local culture but also inspires broader conversations about accessibility and creativity in the arts.
